Doppler
An ultrasound technique that measures blood velocity and resistance to flow
(pulsed Doppler). Colour Doppler provides a colour map of arteries and veins.
Power Doppler is more sensitive in detecting blood flow but it does not give
information about directional flow or differentiate between arterial and venous
flow.
Down syndrome
A condition resulting from a genetic abnormality where an extra chromosome 21 is
present. So that there are 47 chromosomes instead of the normal 46.

Downregulation
A method used to achieve pituitary and ovarian suppression in IVF treatment
cycles. LH RH agonists are used to achieve this effect.
DVT
Deep Vein Thrombosis. Clotting of deep veins in the legs which may lead to
fragments of blood clot in the lungs (emboli).
