Fallopian tube
Tubes on either side of uterine body with finger like structures (fimbrie) at
the end. They pick up the released egg from the ovary, fertilisation takes
place in the tube and fertilised egg is carried to the womb lining for
implantation
Fertilisation
Fusion of sperm and egg resulting in creation of an embryo. In natural
conception, fertilisation takes place in fallopian tube.
Fertility drugs
Drugs used to ripen more eggs in the ovary and induce ovulation
Fetus
The developing baby in uterus, from 9 weeks of pregnancy until birth
Fibroids
Benign tumours of uterine muscle (wall). Fibroids can affect chances of having a
baby if present just below the lining of womb or if there are several of them
in the wall of uterus.
First day of period
The start of proper (heavy) menstrual flow. The menstrual cycle is calculated
from the first day of flow to the first day of next menstrual flow.

Follicle
A fluid sac containing an egg before ovulation. It appears like a black circle
on ultrasound scan.
Follicle Stimulating Hormon
A hormone produced by the pituitary gland.It stimulates production of follicles
in the ovary
Follicular phase
First half of menstrual cycle when follicle grows and ripens prior to ovulation
Fragile X syndrome
A genetic disorder involving an abnormality of X chromosome. It is the most
common cause of inherited mental retardation.
