Tenaculum
An instrument used occasionally to hold a part of cervix during IUI and ET
procedures.
TESA
A procedure performed to collect sperm from the testicles.It is done under local
anaesthetic using a needle and a syringe. The sperm collected is either used in
a fresh ICSI cycle to inject into eggs or frozen for future use.
TESE
Testicular Sperm Extraction. An out-patient procedure performed to remove sperm
from the testicles in men with who have no sperm in the ejaculate. The sperm is
used for injection into eggs in an ICSI cycle.
Testis
Male reproductive gland. There are two testes contained in scrotal pouches. They
produce male hormones and sperm.
Testosterone
The most potent male hormone produced by the testicles in men.
Theca cells
The cells present in ovarian follicles. They produce hormones required for
maturation of eggs.
Threatened miscarriage
The term used to describe bleeding in early pregnancy

Thrombophilia
A condition that predisposes women to ‘thrombosis’. It could be congenital or acquired.
Thrombosis
A condition in which there is a tendency to blood clotting.
Transducer see probe
Transvaginal
An internal scan. It is performed by passing a probe in the vagina.
Trasabdominal
An ultrasound procedure performed by applying gel on abdomen and examination
using an abdominal probe
Tubal ligation
A female sterilization procedure. The fallopian tubes are tied to prevent the
passage of embryo into womb.
Turner’s syndrome
A genetic condition in women where there is only one X chromosome. It leads to
absence of periods and infertility. Hormone Replacement Therapy is recommended.
Pregnancy with donor eggs is successful.
